Mailbox
The Mailbox is a gameplay feature in Voices of the Void. It allows the player to transfer items across saves.
Appearance
The Mailbox features a yellow exterior, a red slit, and an envelope symbol on the front.
Location
The Mailbox is located to the left of the Alpha Root Base's front door.
Usage
The Mailbox has a maximum volume of 10,000 - around 22 times of the player's inventory. The Mailbox's contents are stored in a persistent data pool that all save types can access, across all versions of the game. However, Sandbox saves can not write to the data pool, meaning items can not leave Sandbox saves.
It is not recommended to backport items to earlier versions.
The contents of containers (backpacks, crates, paper sheets, etc.) do not save inside the Mailbox.
History
The Mailbox was added sometime around Demo 0.6.0, released on July 11, 2023. The ability to transfer items from Sandbox saves was patched in Demo 0.6.3, released on October 23, 2023.[1]
On April 10, 2024, MrDrNose clarified the Mailbox's purpose in-universe, stating that it "...is purely gameplay exception, theres no lore behind it..."[2]
