Information may include spoilers, and information will not be in chronological order. This page will update semi-regularly and will need time to be finished.
How to read and use this page:
- Every new QNA will be separated with a line
- The first message of the QNA section will include a link to the original Discord message and a timestamp next to it.
- If required, a page may include necessary context along with the QNA messages which will be in parenthesis (Ex. this )
small note from the original editor: i won't be updating this page all the time, so helping editing the page would be great. just make sure you follow the formatting rules :3
- User: Given Arirals having a natural dislike of fungi, do they have any opinions on mushrooms on pizza? — 05/23/2024 3:46 PM
- Nose: I think it'll feel like having scorpion tails on the pizza, freaky but not that bad
(users in the QNA channel were discussing Ariral weaponry)
- Nose: They can have weapons lol — 05/20/2024 2:21 PM
- User: what kinds?
- Nose: The default one - heavy gluton weaponry
The most common ( glutons are a fictional subatomic particle that Nose came up with from one of his old games )
- User: Nose, you said previously that the territory control for the planet is 60/40, does the Shorts have 60% of the planet or does the Talls have 60% of the planet? — 05/20/2024 6:16 AM
- Nose: basically 60% are shorts, talls live in the most comfy zones lol
- User: is the path the tentacle balls take the same every time? — 05/13/2024 12:34 PM
- Nose: There is a system involving a spline, so there is a path they keep moving along but its more complicated
- User: I also assume the most complex skeletal mesh asset that is consistently used is kerfus and most aliens seem to have a more simple animation set/blueprint — 05/13/2024 12:32 PM
- Nose: There are a few complex animation systems, piramid and tentacle balls have huge graphs
- User: I think this might be the best place to ask, but i've been quite impressed with VotV optimisation overall. i've been working on my own game for a good year now learning unreal, but i struggle with performance optimisation myself. What are some key tips/tricks that have been implemented to make VotV run so smoothly? (obviously aside from the low poly look and low res textures) . — 05/13/2024 11:48 AM
- Nose: yeah its like 90% blueprints with shit ton of optimization techniques and sacrifices
but i also made plenty of c++ code to make some stuff run even more smooth like 2d bounding boxes for action menu, byuoancy, etc - User: It's quite impressive, i'm mainly using blueprints too and not reaching any kind of performance you do, even sacrificing a lot in physics objects, which VotV has SO MANY of them, how did you pass the hurdle of physics objects lagging..everything?
- Nose: Keep solver iterations low, and the main sound impact function is done on c++
When I implemented it the performance improved by +10 fps
For me at least - User: I assume on component hit is extremely taxing? Do you have some of documentation on how to implement this sound impact? It would be extremely helpful (as all my physics objects have their own little sounds too and i would like to keep them)
- Nose: Calculation for sound spawning was very big
Basically it takes hit info with velocities, calculates the values then spawns sound depending on the result
- User: What about AI wise? i'm making a stealth game and boy do the behaviour and perception system love to eat chunks out of performance — 05/13/2024 12:34 PM
- Nose: Ai is very simple and I don't use behavior trees cus they're too confusing for me atm
Kerfur has states and stuff so it could be the most complicated ai yet lol
Working with ai on unreal is very wacky
- User: So the game is an astronomy simulator without knowledge of amateur astronomy, or still a horror game, which is very debatable? — 04/30/2024 10:45 AM
Yes, an observatory no bigger than N.R.O takes pictures of exoplanets in a couple of minutes. - Nose: Its not too technical or itll be too complicated and scare away even more players
Its not really a picture but approximation, how the object would look like - User: I know, but why is it in real colors.
Radio pictures don't show this. - Nose: idk it gets info bout colors lol
- User: bruh
- Nose: expensive and special technology and stuff
scifi future etc etc :Untitled: :Untitled: :Untitled: :Untitled: :Untitled: :Untitled: :Untitled: - User: but
uh - Nose: The entire budget went into advanced technology and now kel living in conditions worse that rats does
